70.3 · 6 February 2027 · Muscat, Oman
Ironman 70.3 Muscat 2027
IRONMAN 70.3 Muscat takes place on February 6, 2027 from Qurum Beach, Oman. A sea swim with water around 22°C, a rolling bike with 783 m of elevation gain on perfect tarmac and closed roads, and a flat lapped half marathon in Qurum Park. Oman's winter climate is mild (average highs 26°C), but the sun is punishing and there's almost no shade on the run. It's not a record-chasing course, but the quality of the organization and roads is high. The times in the tables are our indicative estimates, not official data.
Course
Three legs, three different races
Indicative profile · Scheda automatica da fonti pubbliche (2026-11): da rivedere. The organiser publishes the final course in spring: this page updates.
Swim1.9 km
- Start from Qurum Beach, crystal-clear water: rated 3rd best swim in EMEA in 2023 according to the organizer.
- Historical water temperature 21-24°C: the wetsuit call is often borderline, in some editions (2020) it was below the cutoff and wetsuits were allowed. Check on race morning.
- Athlete reports mention possible choppy seas in the morning: in 2025 the first 800 m were in waves, then a favorable current on the way back.
- Buoy sighting isn't always easy in the chop: look up often and hold a clean line.
Bike90 km · 783 m D+
- Rolling course with an official 783 m of elevation gain (athletes' Strava data shows around 700 m): demanding but not mountainous.
- A loop past the city's iconic sites and old Muscat, with ocean views.
- Tarmac described as flawless, roads almost entirely closed to traffic with only a few coned-off sections.
- Not a PB course: meter out your watts on the climbs, the sun drains you even at 24°C.
Run21.1 km
- Three laps in Qurum Park: flat and fast, with crowds and families along the course.
- Very little shade and late-morning sun: the heat is the real opponent in this half.
- Official elevation gain is 316 m, but reports describe it as flat and fast-rolling.
- Athletes call the course 'a bit bland': focus on pacing and cooling.

#ironman703muscatReviews
Who raced it, what they say
At launch, pages start from syntheses of public race reports, declared as such. Verified reviews come from athletes who receive the invite within 7 days of the race, with the activity recorded on their device.
Structured fields: finish and leg times from your device, wetsuit yes/no, gear, perceived temperature, what you'd do again and what not, «I'd race it again». Free text is the race report. The linked activity makes it verified without exposing personal data.
The form appears here after the race, for those who connected a device or appear in the official results.
Are wetsuits allowed? It depends on the year: the historical average water temperature is 22°C, right on the limit. In 2020 it was below the cutoff and wetsuits were allowed. The decision is announced close to race day: bring both options and check the official channels on race morning. What's the sea like on race morning? Variable. In 2025 it was calm in the days before but choppy on race day, with waves in the first 800 m and a favorable current on the way back. In the chop the buoys are hard to see: train to sight often and practice bilateral breathing. Is the bike course hard? It's rolling: 783 m of official elevation gain, around 700 m according to athletes' Strava data and up to nearly 1000 m per some sources. Demanding but not mountainous, on excellent tarmac and closed roads. Not a record course: steady watts on the kickers. What's the run leg like? Three flat, fast laps in Qurum Park, with crowds along the course. The official elevation gain (316 m) contrasts with reports describing it as flat. The real problem is the sun: almost zero shade, you need a cooling protocol. What's the weather like in Muscat in February? Mild climate: average highs of 26°C, lows of 18°C in recent editions. But the sun is strong and reports describe heat that "drains you", especially on the shadeless run in late morning. Are the roads closed to traffic? Yes, almost entirely: reports describe fully closed roads with only a few coned-off sections, on tarmac described as flawless. Can I rent a bike locally? One athlete report mentions a partner rental company recommended by the organization. If you opt to rent, contact the provider well in advance and plan a test ride before check-in. What are the cutoff times? Cutoffs aren't listed on the official course page: check the athlete guide, published close to the event. Can family follow the race? Yes: the three-lap run in Qurum Park is accessible to friends and family, with three guaranteed passes for cheering. The park is described in reviews as pleasant and easily accessible. Where should I stay? The sources offer no established recommendations: on forums, athletes themselves ask for advice. Logic points to the Qurum area for its proximity to the start and transition; verify actual distances and book early.
The Q&A is fed by reviews and the rulebook: every answer says where it comes from.
Preparation tips
What to do from today to race day
With average water at 22°C, wetsuits may or may not be allowed depending on the year. Bring both options and test them beforehand.
The outbound stretch can be choppy: in the weeks before, train swimming in waves and sighting hard-to-see buoys.
Almost zero shade in the park: light-colored cap, ice in your tri suit, water over your head at every aid station. Decide your protocol before race day.
Athletes agree: this isn't a record course. Hold steady watts on the rolling hills and start the run with something in reserve.
Race venue
The race is based at Qurum Beach / Qurum Park, in the Muscat area. Swim start from the beach, run in the park.
Transition zone
Your spot in transition depends on your bib number: in 2025 a high bib was still just 20 m from the bike exit. Memorize your rack well.
Closed roads
The bike course is almost entirely on roads closed to traffic, with a few coned-off sections. Excellent tarmac quality.
Spectators
The lapped run in Qurum Park is accessible to friends and family for cheering.

Wheels for this course
A rule of thumb from this course: 8.7 m of climbing per km and low wind exposure. It is guidance, not a count. (rolling)

Rear wheel
Disc, or a deep wheel (60-80 mm) if you prefer
Tyres
28-30 mm, tubeless if possible. Choose pressure by weight and road surface, not by habit.
Check the weather and the wind forecast on race week: on windy days, drop a depth step on the front wheel.
Race kit
