Full distance · 5 December 2026 · Muscat, Oman
Ironman Muscat 2026
The very first full in Oman, December 5, 2026. You swim at Qurum Beach in the Gulf of Oman, ride rolling coastal roads 'shaped by wind and desert' out to Barka and back, and run flat past Muscat's landmarks. Official data: 844 m of elevation gain on the bike, 34 m on the run, water around 24°C (wetsuit borderline), air 20-28°C. Since this is the first edition there are no course reports for the full: the heat and wind ratings are based on official data and race reports from the 70.3 in the same city. The times listed in the splits are rough estimates, not official figures.
Course
Three legs, three different races
Indicative profile · Scheda automatica da fonti pubbliche (2026-11): da rivedere. The organiser publishes the final course in spring: this page updates.
Swim3.8 km
- 3,800 m at Qurum Beach, in the Gulf of Oman: clear water, promoted as the 3rd best swim in the EMEA region.
- Official average water temperature of 24°C: wetsuits are legal only up to 24.5°C (max 5 mm), so it's right on the line. Be ready for both scenarios.
- Number of laps not specified on the official pages: check the athlete guide.
Bike180 km · 844 m D+
- 180 km with an official 844 m of climbing: rolling profile, no listed climbs but constant ups and downs.
- Out-and-back course: from Qurum Beach through the historic streets of Muttrah, past the city skyline, out to Barka and back.
- Coastal roads 'shaped by wind and desert' according to the organizer: factor in wind, especially on the exposed sections.
- Reports from the 70.3 in the same area describe a beautiful, well-marked course that's hillier than expected: don't underestimate the rollers.
Run42.2 km
- 42.2 km with just 34 m of official elevation gain: flat and fast, with coastal views and stretches past Muscat's landmarks.
- Spectators along the course according to the organizer; 70.3 reports confirm good support.
- Watch out for the sun: even at 24-28°C, local reports say 'the sun drains you'. Ice and water at every aid station.
- Number of laps not yet announced: check the athlete guide.

Who raced it, what they say
At launch, pages start from syntheses of public race reports, declared as such. Verified reviews come from athletes who receive the invite within 7 days of the race, with the activity recorded on their device.
Structured fields: finish and leg times from your device, wetsuit yes/no, gear, perceived temperature, what you'd do again and what not, «I'd race it again». Free text is the race report. The linked activity makes it verified without exposing personal data.
The form appears here after the race, for those who connected a device or appear in the official results.
Will wetsuits be allowed in the swim? It's borderline: official average water temperature is 24°C, wetsuits legal up to 24.5°C (max 5 mm). The call will come close to the start. Bring both a wetsuit and a swimskin and train without a wetsuit too. What's the bike course like? 180 km out-and-back from Qurum Beach via Muttrah to Barka and back, 844 m of official climbing. Rolling profile with no listed climbs, on coastal roads exposed to wind according to the organizer and 70.3 reports. Is the run really flat? Yes: 34 m of official elevation gain over 42.2 km, along the coast and past Muscat's landmarks. The real factor is the sun, not the elevation. The number of laps hasn't been announced yet. What weather should I expect on December 5? Official data: air 20-28°C, water around 24°C. Reports from the 70.3 races in the same city mention strong sun that dehydrates you even in moderate temperatures, and wind on exposed sections. What are the cutoff times? They don't appear to be published on the official pages reviewed. Check the athlete guide or email oman@ironman.com. When and how do I check in my bike? Bike and transition bags are dropped off the day before the race. Clean transition rules apply: no gear on the ground, helmet not on the bike. Blue bag = bike gear, red = run gear, white = post-race. Are there race reports from past editions of the full? No, this is the first full edition in Oman. Only reports from the Muscat 70.3 exist, useful as a guide to climate, wind, sun and the area's terrain, but the course is different. Are the swim and run on one or multiple laps? The number of laps isn't listed on the official pages reviewed for either leg: check the athlete guide once it's published. How much does registration cost? Pricing isn't included in the sources reviewed for this page: check the official race page on the organizer's website. Who do I contact for official questions? The organizer's official contact is oman@ironman.com. For schedules, cutoffs and course details, also refer to the athlete guide in the pre-race section of the website.
The Q&A is fed by reviews and the rulebook: every answer says where it comes from.
Preparation tips
What to do from today to race day
Bring both a wetsuit and a swimskin: the call will come close to the start based on the official water temperature.
If you can, drive or ride the stretch toward Muttrah and Barka: 70.3 reports say the area is hillier than it looks.
With highs of 28°C, the marathon is decided on the bike: drink and take in sodium regularly from the first kilometers.
Visor, ice in your kit and a conservative pace in the first half: the flat course tempts you to go out hard, and the sun collects later.
Train long blocks on rolling, windy routes: simulate the out-and-back with half of it into a headwind.
Check-in the day before
Bike and transition bags must be dropped off the day before the race.
Clean transition
No gear on the ground or in boxes around your bike, helmet not resting on the bike. Blue bag = bike gear, red = run gear, white = dry post-race clothes.

Wheels for this course
A rule of thumb from this course: 4.7 m of climbing per km and moderate wind exposure. It is guidance, not a count. (flat)
Front wheel
50-65 mm deep
Rear wheel
Disc, or a deep wheel (60-80 mm) if you prefer
Tyres
28-30 mm, tubeless if possible. Choose pressure by weight and road surface, not by habit.
Check the weather and the wind forecast on race week: on windy days, drop a depth step on the front wheel.
Race kit
Fuel and pack, nothing forgotten
